Transform or Die: 30% of Fortune 500 Will Not Exist in 30 Years

CMOs are ideally placed to transform into CGOs as they control the digital levers, but need to be Quants as much as Creatives Tom Siebel is CEO of C3 IoT, a former Oracle executive who subsequently moved on, created a business and made his money by selling one of his companies back to Oracle. Now he leads an IoT platform, and he caught my eye because I was flipping through Fox Business and saw the captions “Artificial Intelligence”. And “AI Dominating the Future”. Curiosity peeked, I watched the clip and listened to what Siebel had to say. Fox and cable... Read More »

Major Marketing Automation Player’s Domain Renewal Failure is Blamed on Human & Process Error

Marketo is a marketing automation platform which in late July had to apologize to customers over downtime. Downtime was caused because users could not log in to their accounts due to the main domain, Marketo.com had not been renewed. The primary domain is used for users to login to the automation platform, however a number of ancillary domains and services were also adversely impacted too as a follow-on effect. Marketo CEO, Steve Lucas cited “human and process error” as the primary culprit while hordes of frustrated users took to Social Media to vent, while the company pointed fingers at the... Read More »

Digital Transformation Myth Busting

Aligning Technology & Enterprise Architecture with Business Vision Working with companies in the mid and enterprise spaces, there are three major common themes that are continuously repeated: Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, and Digital Transformation. Underlining this ‘Big Three” are the issues of security, application/usability, and how do we build an enterprise architecture which can deliver on the promises and opportunities created from them? Digital Transformation is rightly viewed as the essential, strategic prerequisite for how organizations will grow and perform in the future. How transformation strategy is implemented, managed, and used will determine future success. What is clear... Read More »

Accelerate Digital Transformation & Innovation Through Lean BPM

Beating the “Innovation Dilemma” and treating Digital Transformation as a starting point. Innovation is crucial to business performance and success, and Digital Transformation is the precursor to creating the environment within which innovators can thrive. The key point here is that transforming organizations into digital ones is a major challenge, and probably the biggest business challenge for the majority of them, however Digital Transformation is just the starting point and not an end goal. Digital Transformation is a prerequisite for future business success because it opens the door to innovation and the ability to break the mold into which so... Read More »

Business Decision Management (BDM) and BPM’s Innovation Intersection

Removing Subjectivity, Capturing Creativity, and Injecting Data & Facts into Business Decision Making We talk a lot about process management and optimization, and while enterprises and a sizeable chunk of mid-range companies understand BPM as a bedrock for digital transformation, there is a glaring gap in implementation. However, it is not simply lack of implementation or adoption of BPM that will hold an organization back, but the lack of an ability to standardize business decision making. Business Decision Management (BDM) seeks to deliver this standardization, providing decision making with a set of processes whose objective is to deliver consistency, and... Read More »

Applying Lean through Workflow Automation and Emergent Design

Large scale workflow automation deployments do pose significant challenges, leading to delay or abandonment of the strategy, but there is a viable alternative using Lean BPM’s Emergent Design Approach Workflow automation delivers significant business benefits, and it is not difficult to see these reflected in the bottom-line numbers, but there are challenges to implementation. The push for workflow automation has traditionally been coming from the vendor side, but increasingly we are seeing customers taking the lead and seeking to deliver innovative solutions for work management. A significant barrier to deployment of a workflow solution is time and cost, however where... Read More »

Enterprise Task Management By The Worker For The Worker

Enterprise Task Management By The People for the People Enterprise task management systems promise to deliver organization, efficiency, and work visibility, however a common issue is that they also deliver a straitjacket for work processes, are cumbersome, and while they offer insight for management they are frequently just another system layer for the people who must work with them. Tagged onto this is the price tag, not just of the initial cost of ownership, but the ensuing support burden typically laid upon IT’s shoulders. Instead of empowering workers to respond and react to the business environment, to test ideas for... Read More »

Defeating Procrastination and Improving Organizational Task Management

I am in my fourth decade of work and I still must deal with the issue of procrastination on a personal level. While I have developed a highly-disciplined approach to work, and my grey hairs do indicate I can prioritize effectively, there are still some instances where I feel like I cannot be bothered! I’m not alone in this, as apparently, we all suffer from this impulse to one degree or another. What separates effective and productive types from the ineffective, under-performing, is how we manage to adopt anti-procrastination strategies, and the work habits we develop and improve upon. This... Read More »
