Major Marketing Automation Player’s Domain Renewal Failure is Blamed on Human & Process Error

Marketo is a marketing automation platform which in late July had to apologize to customers over downtime. Downtime was caused because users could not log in to their accounts due to the main domain, Marketo.com had not been renewed. The primary domain is used for users to login to the automation platform, however a number of ancillary domains and services were also adversely impacted too as a follow-on effect. Marketo CEO, Steve Lucas cited “human and process error” as the primary culprit while hordes of frustrated users took to Social Media to vent, while the company pointed fingers at the... Read More »

Process Excellence, Operational Excellence and Business Excellence

What’s the Difference between PEX, OpEX, and Business Excellence? Business language frequently conflates terms and jargon, with phrases thrown around like conjoined confetti, and in the world of Process we’re just as guilty. Ask 100 people what the difference between Process, Operational, and Business Excellence is, and you’re guaranteed to get 100 different answers. These three terms are not the same, but they are frequently misused, one for any other. The reality is that Process, Operational, and Business Excellence form a hierarchy, starting with Process Excellence as a subset of Operational Excellence, and itself as a subset of Business Excellence.... Fully Automated Active Directory Sync with JobTraQ Lean BPM

Josh Clark is a software engineer and a member of the Professional Services team tasked with training, deployment and managing customer system integrations. He has extensive experience on integrating JobTraQ with Active Directory. Active Directory, in addition to all the other things it can do, is primarily used as the authoritative source for an organizations network logins. JobTraQ, like Active Directory, contains a list of accounts with specific permissions and logins for each user. JobTraQ has the ability to directly integrate with Active Directory for user logins straight out of the box. However, JobTraQ does not update any information on... Read More »

Essential Skills for Business Process Management Success

One of the most effective ways for managing your business is by managing its processes. This is where business process management (BPM) can help. Through a mix of methods, policies, practices and tools, your organization’s activities and procedures will grow optimized and capable of achieving the goals set by upper management. However, to ensure the success of your efforts, your business process directors and senior IT managers should possess a set of crucial skills aside from obvious ones such as process modeling. Gartner’s 15 Skills Critical to Success with BPM Gartner, the world’s top IT research and advisory company, published... Read More »

How Workflow Management can Increase Efficiency, Visibility & Productivity

Workflow management essentially deals with the automation of business processes, and the allocation of work across your staff in a way that allows you to optimize throughput of work tasks, i.e. workflow. Workflow management seeks to marry individual tasks which go to make up your business process, with the appropriate worker who is best situated to complete them. Once a task is completed, the work moves to the next step in the business process. Let’s take a look at an education example. When a potential student makes an application to a college, this is input into an electronic system. The... Read More »

Are You Integrating Technology or Business Operations?

I came across a post by Randy Heffner, an analyst at Forrester. Though the post is dated back to 2013, it resonates with me today. Randy’s post is simply titled, “Are You Doing Techie Integration or Business Integration?” After handling a couple of new customer deployments this month, I felt it was a good question to ask. A major differentiator for JobTraQ is the freedom from the IT department: with the JobTraQ On Premises edition, IT only has to provision a server and you’re in business (unless you’re performing some heavy duty integration or customization work). JobTraQ cloud edition customers... Read More »

Can BPM and Agile Work Together?

The marriage of BPM with Agile has not been a match made in heaven, but rather in the dark murk of the negotiation room for an arranged marriage between two rich kids. Since the early Noughties when Agile was initially paired with BPM, it has shown some sparkling successes, and certainly the word “Agile” has been splashed around plenty. Agile Marketing, Production, Manufacturing, Teams, Working Practices…. Agile, Agile, AGILE…. You get the idea. But Agile got its start in the Agile Manifesto, and here it is singularly attributable to software development: Individuals and interactions over processes and tools Working software... Read More »

Why Your Organization Should Use Just One BPM Tool

Today’s post is going to cover the ‘Big Three’ reasons why you should deploy one BPM or PM tool across your organization. There are plenty of tools on the market, and frequently I come across companies where the problem they are experiencing is not how to manage business processes and projects, but how to manage disparate data stored across multiple tools across the business. If we have one BPM/PM tool deployed across the entire organization, then we have one, and only one repository for all of the data. Think outside the box a little and consider who else aside from... Documenting a Process in Five Steps

Take the pain out of documenting your processes by applying structure, rigor and input from your team. Defining and documenting business and project processes is typically one of the least favorite chores of project managers, BPM experts or anyone for that matter. This post deals with how to tackle documenting your processes in 5 steps, and how to minimize some of the pain and discomfort usually associated with this task. Step One: Create a High Level Outline This should take only about 10 to 15 minutes and should be a free-form exercise. You are thinking at a very high level... Read More »

Whitepaper – Delivering Sustained Value and ROI with Task Management Software

Jim Collins writes in Good to Great that “good is the enemy of great” – an important lesson for any business seeking to remain competitive and relevant.  Years before, however, Aristotle, Confucius and Voltaire proclaimed that “perfect is the enemy of good” which captures the challenge faced by many organizations when they attempt to deploy an enterprise-wide business process management (BPM) solution.  Driven by multiple factors including the complexity created by the evaluation and selection of methodologies, implementation of business process standards, and tool selection it can easily take a year or more before a working system is in place...
