Moving a JobTraQ database to a new server is a complicated process, and it must be performed precisely as described in this document. There is no danger of data loss or corruption on the old server, but the new server will not operate correctly unless the entire process is performed correctly.

Also, the same version of JobTraQ BPM software must be installed on both the old server and the new server. Otherwise, the new server will not be able to read the database accurately. To make sure that the process works correctly, we recommend that you upgrade both servers to the latest version of JobTraQ before beginning the transfer process.

Upgrade the old server to the latest version of JobTraQ

  1. Contact support@jobtraq.com to get the latest JobTraQ installer
  2. Log in to the old JobTraQ server and run the setup program
  3. It will disconnect all your JobTraQ users, make a pre-upgrade backup of the database, and perform the upgrade

Backup the old server’s JobTraQ database

  1. Open SQL Management Studio on the old server
  2. Open the JobTraQ database
  3. Backup the database

If your old server has the Business Intelligence Module, backup the old server’s JobTraQ_Reporting database

  1. Open SQL Management Studio on the old server
  2. Open the JobTraQ_Reporting database
  3. Backup the database

Install the latest version of JobTraQ on the new server

  1. Log in to the new JobTraQ server and run the same setup program that you ran on the old server
  2. It will install JobTraQ on your new server
  3. When the Configuration tool appears, enter the same values that you used on your old server, but do not enter a license key
  4. If your old server had the Business Intelligence Module, select “Yes” when the installer asks if you want to install the BI Module

Load the database backup onto the new server

  1. Open SQL Management Studio on the new server
  2. Open the JobTraQ database
  3. Restore the backup file into the JobTraQ database, with the Overwrite option checked
  4. Open the Security folder in the JobTraQ database
  5. Open the Users folder
  6. Delete all of the users that are there
  7. Go to the server’s Security folder, and open the Logins folder
  8. You will see three JobTraQ users: JobTraQ, JobTraQ_Admin, and JobTraQ_Reporting
  9. Right-click on the JobTraQ user and click Properties
  10. Go to the User Mapping page
  11. Check the “Map” box for the JobTraQ database
  12. In the Role Membership section, check db_datareader and db_datawriter
  13. Click OK
  14. Do the same thing for JobTraQ_Admin, but check db_datareader, db_datawriter, and db_owner
  15. Do the same thing for JobTraQ_Reporting, but only check db_datareader
  16. Now, go back to the JobTraQ database and open the Programmability folder
  17. Open the Functions folder, and go to the Scalar-valued Functions folder
  18. That list will contain several functions. For each one, do the following:
    1. Right-click on the function and click Properties
    2. Go to the Permissions page
    3. Click the Search button, click Browse, and select JobTraQ, JobTraQ_Admin, and JobTraQ_Reporting
    4. Click OK twice to get back to the Permissions page
    5. Select each user in turn, and check the Grant box for the Execute permission
    6. Click Ok

If your old server had the Business Intelligence Module, do the following:

  1. Open the JobTraq_Reporting database
  2. Restore the backup file into the JobTraq_Reporting database, with the Overwrite option checked
  3. Open the Security folder in the JobTraQ_Reporting database
  4. Open the Users folder
  5. Delete all of the users that are there
  6. Go to the server’s Security folder, and open the Logins folder
  7. You will see two JobTraQ users: JobTraQ, and JobTraQ_Reporting
  8. Right-click on the JobTraQ user and click Properties
  9. Go to the User Mapping page
  10. Check the “Map” box for the JobTraQ_Reporting database
  11. In the Role Membership section, check db_datareader , db_datawriter, and db_owner
  12. Click Ok
  13. Right-click on the JobTraQ_Reporting user and click Properties
  14. Go to the User Mapping page
  15. Check the “Map” box for the JobTraQ_Reporting database
  16. In the Role Membership section, check db_datareader and db_datawriter
  17. Click Ok

Load the license on the new server

  1. Call Swift Software’s support team and ask them to transfer your existing license to the new server
  2. Log in to JobTraQ on the new server; it will take you to the Licensing page
  3. Click the Update License button
